In Myanmar's rapidly evolving music industry, the need for fair representation and protection of songwriters became increasingly apparent. This led to the birth of Music Copyright Myanmar—a vision to create an organization where every melody and lyric would be safeguarded. Before its establishment, renowned songwriter Myint Moe Aung (Founder & Chairperson) and his colleagues from Myanmar’s music industry recognized the industry’s copyright issues. In response, they founded the Myanmar Performance Rights Organization (MPRO) in 2015, with Myint Moe Aung at the helm. After leaving MPRO in 2022, the need for a robust and fair system for managing music rights persisted. Driven by the desire to improve the music copyright landscape and simplify licensing for users, Myint Moe Aung began working toward the establishment of a globally recognized Country’s CMO (Collective Management Organization) in Myanmar.
From its inception, Music Copyright Myanmar’s mission was clear: to protect the rights of songwriters while ensuring that music users—businesses, broadcasters, and performers—could easily and lawfully access the content they love. The organization set out to bridge the gap between creators and consumers, fostering a system that would enable both to thrive.
Thanks to collaboration with key stakeholders and the support of a growing community of songwriters, Music Copyright Myanmar officially launched in 2023. It was no longer just a concept but a reality. The organization worked closely with government bodies to ensure a smooth process, from registration to music licensing, laying the foundation for an efficient copyright management system.
At the heart of Music Copyright Myanmar is the belief that creators should be free to innovate, secure in the knowledge that their work is protected. Every chord and lyric reflects a songwriter’s passion, and the organization’s core mission is to safeguard this creative legacy.
As the MCM grew, so did its ambition. Music Copyright Myanmar embraced innovation by implementing cutting-edge solutions to simplify access for music users. From streamlined licensing platforms to educational outreach, the MCM is making it easier than ever for businesses and creators to thrive in the evolving music landscape.
Looking ahead, Music Copyright Myanmar remains committed to shaping a harmonious future for the country's music industry. The vision extends beyond protection—it aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem where creativity and commerce can flourish together, ensuring that both songwriters and music users benefit from a balanced and vibrant industry.
